Carlos has over 23 years’ experience in the development of residential, retail and commercial property, specialising in developing shopping centres in disadvantaged areas across South Africa. In 2005, Lazarus Capital purchased a 25% stake from Sanlam in Vukile Property Fund where he served as a director until 2011.
The roots of Fundamentum started in 1996 when Carlos and Mlungisi Hlongwane started Sakhisizwe Holdings. From 2012, Carlos together with Sean Bergsma, Brendon Penn and Donovan Bergsma started Fundamentum Property Group, creating a sizeable property portfolio of well-managed assets with strong income streams.
Brendon has 19 years’ experience in finance, banking and property. He has been involved in the property finance and specialised finance divisions of both BoE and Nedbank. Brendon has a further 10 years’ experience in the finance and operations of various listed and private property-related businesses and projects.
In 2012, Brendon joined the Fundamentum Group as a director. He is involved in the operations of the business, driving new acquisitions of investment properties, and securing the finances required for the group’s investments, asset managing a portfolio of high quality property investments.
Dr Tutu qualified as a medical practitioner in 1995. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), a Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health (DOH) and a Post Graduate Diploma in HIV/AIDS Management in the World of Work. In addition, she has a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc).
At the beginning of 2012 she was appointed as a member of the Fourth Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), by the Minister of Public Works in South Africa, Mr Thulas Nxesi. In terms of Section 4 (4) of the Engineering Profession Act, Act No. 46 of 2000. She was to serve a four-year term.
Dr Tutu serves as chairperson of the ECSA’s Transformation Committee. She is a governing body member of one of the most prestigious schools in South Africa – Michael House – based in KwaZulu-Natal. She currently serves as a strategic adviser to Busane Development Trust, a community-based organisation in Clermont, near Pinetown in the Greater Durban area.
Janice has over 35 years’ experience in finance, human resources, project and operations management, as well as all aspects of property administration in both the residential, commercial and NGO sectors. Janice has worked for Woodhaven Ltd. (subsidiary of Goldfield Properties) in the development and management of residential sectional title and NBS Bank Ltd. property division.
Here she functioned as the senior property administrator in property/leasing administration for the commercial property portfolio for both NBS owned properties and NBS branches leased from outside Landlords in shopping centres and other properties. Additionally, she gained 10 years of knowledge at the Diocese of Natal, managing a large portfolio of church-owned properties, which included buildings, rectories and properties held in urban, semi-rural and rural areas.
In 2007 she joined Habitat for Humanity where she gained over 5 years’ experience as an administrative and operations manager, working with the communities, Department of Human Settlements and other corporates building homes for disadvantaged families. Janice joined the Fundamentum Executive team in May 2013.
Paul qualified with a diploma in building from Natal Technicon in 2001, immediately commencing with a B-tech in construction management, which he completed in 2002.
He then joined Grinaker-LTA (Aveng Grinaker-LTA) in 2003. Here, he climbed the ladder from junior site managerial positions, to contracts manager. During his time at Grinaker-LTA, Paul became passionate about health and safety, culminating in him being awarded the KZN Master Builders Safety Person of the Year in 2011.
Paul then joined Liviero in 2013 where he worked as a senior contract’s manager, overseeing a diverse range of contracts around KZN. At Liviero he was actively involved in the day-to-day running of operations in the region. Paul joined Fundamentum as a development manager in September 2018.
Malcolm qualified in Quantity Surveying and Building Management in 1998 and entered the retail and commercial property industry later that year. In 2001 Malcolm accepted a management role for a listed portfolio, consisting mainly of industrial and commercial property assets, in Johannesburg.
An opportunity arose in 2008, to assume the role of portfolio manager in a mixed portfolio in Durban. Malcolm’s vast knowledge base and experience in retail, commercial and industrial sectors makes him an asset to any organisation.
His skill and property grooming makes him the ideal candidate for the duties associated with the asset management position he has taken up with Fundamentum effective 1 July 2017.
Lana’s passion for retail is driven by her experience in the property industry spanning over 28 years, over which time, she has had the opportunity to be part of dynamic larger developments like Gateway, the Pavilion, Arbour Crossing and Galleria Mall in KZN. During her 24 years employed with Marriott Property Group and then Old Mutual Properties, Lana’s passion for retail developments extended throughout the South Africa.
Lana has a good solid network with property owners, retailers, and peers in the property industry. Her passion lies in projects where she can take a leadership role of accountability ensuring that the deliverables are met or exceeded.
Having completed the Certificate of Shopping Centre Management (CSCM) course through the University of Pretoria and the South African Council of Shopping Centres, Lana has gone on to mentor youths in her vision to give back to the industry.
Devon entered the retail and commercial property industry in 2006. Opportunity followed in 2009 to assume the property and general management role of a privately-owned portfolio, consisting mainly of retail and commercial property assets.
The insights and experience he gained was not only challenging, but also highly rewarding and perfectly positioned him for the duties associated with the asset management position he has taken up with Fundamentum since May 2015.
Calvin graduated with an Honours Degree in Management Accounting from UKZN. He went on to complete his articles with a medium-sized auditing practice called Brand Van Niekerk & Co Inc. and qualified as a professional accountant with the South African Institute of Professional Accountants.
He also holds a CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting, with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He worked at a supervisory level at Brand Van Niekerk & Co Inc. for three years after completing articles and thereafter joining Fundamentum in March 2016.
Bronwyn earned her CTA Honours and completed her articles at BDO South Africa Incorporated in 2013. She thereafter worked as a financial accountant at Reebok South Africa, before joining the Fundamentum team in February 2015 as the financial manager.
